When the Woolworth’s Department Store business folded in 1997, the company focused to expand the athletic business instead, acquiring the U. S.’s largest athletic catalogue retailer Eastbay in 1997 and regional storefront retailers Koenig Sporting Goods, also in 1997, and The Athletic Fitters in 1998. By this year, the company renamed itself to the Venator Group, Inc.; with Foot Locker subsequently becoming its main dollar-earner, the company (again) renamed itself to Foot Locker, Inc. in 2001.
